The Meaning of Providence
The English term “providence” derives from the Latin providentia, which signifies care and foresight in the management of resources. Providence was meticulously planned to preserve the natural elements of the land and create a setting where the hopes and aspirations of all residents could be fulfilled in accordance with the words of the Saint, Louis de Monfort (1673-1716)
"Let us admire providence. Which leads everything to its end. This supreme prudence and this sovereign order Which knows, rules and arranges, strongly yet gently, Everything even to the least thing Without any disorder."
Founders
John Cain and Dudley Smith
John Cain is noted as one of the pioneers of the master planned community concept in Middle Tennessee. In 1983, he recognized the potential this land held as a place where people could someday live, shop and play in a true spirit of community. A true visionary, as well as a man of action, Cain enlisted the support of Dudley Smith, a partner with CPS Land. Smith combined creativity and uncommon expertise with sound principles of traditional neighborhood development to help make John Cain’s dream of Providence come true.
